With a joint action plan, the eight Leibniz research museums are strengthening their special function as an interface between science and society. The collaborative activities of the Leibniz research museums and the initiatives of the individual museums will be promoted within this framework. Apart from knowledge transfer-related projects, these joint activities focus on science-related communication, research into knowledge transfer, and the international sharing of knowledge. At the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum, the main focal aspects are establishing a stronger presence in the digital space, the innovation-orientated transfer of knowledge, and civic participation formats.

The research museums’ action plan specifically engages with the thematic fields of Dialogue with Society, Innovative Knowledge Transfer Formats and Internationalisation. 

Dialogue with society

The Dialogue with Society action field is especially concerned with formats designed to strengthen the scientific, social and political exchange between the relevant actors.

Within this framework, Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum seeks to develop civic participation formats that relate to the urban society of the city of Bochum as one area of activity and also as part of its role as a regional actor in the Ruhr Area, and it also aims to develop new participative formats within the digital space.

Innovative Knowledge Transfer Formats

As one part of the action plan, the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum is engaged in the development of innovation-orientated knowledge formats, with the aim of helping to design extracurricular teaching processes, and to make a substantial and enduring contribution to social-based education through direct and personalised access to knowledge.

Internationalisation

The intention is to strengthen the concept of the integrated research museum, and establish it internationally based on sharing experiences with leading international partners such as the Smithsonian Institution, and with regard to the formation of an international goal-focussed, cooperative community.
